I'm now produing an event called "Integrated 2.0 Communications" (actually the title of the event is still subject to change). I called it a journey, because just regarding the title, we already changed from "PR 2.0 China 2008" (to be honest, i also hate this one), to "The iPR Forum" (which may cause some misunderstanding with IPR-Intellectual Property Rights), to "Communications 2.0 – Innovation, Interaction & Integration", and to the newest one "Integrated 2.0 Communications". Ahhh, any more ideas?
Then come to the venue. We used to hold allmost all our PR events in Beijing, since many PR professionals are based in Beijing. But this year, because of the Olympics Games, the price of the hotels has increased around 600%!!! How can it be!!! And let go of the price, the hotels still can cancel our booking any minute they get the reservation from Olympics Media release. All right then, seems Shanghai is my only option.
Now we come to the timing. Would PR professionals be more busy before or after the Olympics games? Would they have to work during Olympics (as i heard many companies in Beijing would have a one and a half months' vocation only for the sake of traffic control!!!)? Would my potential speakers travel to watch Olympics from overseas and then might be able to arrange one or two biz trips like making presentations in my event?...All right, seems August won't be possible. Then September, oh, we have the Mid-Autumn Festival and then two weeks later the national holiday. Should it be held between the two holidays or before or after? My head is aching... Seems the odds for top level managers to enjoy a long vocation is bigger. When they wrap all the stuff about the Olympics and my event:), they have enjoy a happy reunion with their families. Ok, then the time is: September 9, 10 and 11. (I also leave one day before the Mid-Autumn for them to travel back home.) It should be the best choice i can have right now. (One more tip: for any event relating to finance, tax, never choose a date in the first and last days of a month, which is the busiest time for them).
Enough for today, time for me to go back and invite European speakers. Nest time i would discuss more about the speaker invitation. And wish you all a happy Labor holiday!
